Custom-fitted dentures

Quoted after consultation

Cost varies with material, immediate vs conventional, and partial vs full. Many health funds offer cover.

Pricing varies significantly between options. We assess gum and bone condition and quote in writing before fitting.

What's involved

The denture fitting process

  • Gum evaluation and bone structure assessment
  • Oral surgery for tooth extractions if needed — immediate dentures fitted to help during recovery
  • Mouth and bite impressions to make the final set of conventional dentures
  • A series of appointments for adjustments and a comfortable fit
Types of dentures

Three main types

Immediate (temporary)

Fitted right after oral surgery so you're not without teeth during healing. Designed to be replaced by conventional dentures once gums have healed.

Conventional (full)

Crafted with acrylic, nylon or metal — made after surgery once gums have fully healed. Assess bite, jaw and gum colour over multiple appointments for the perfect fit.

Partial dentures

Replace some teeth, fitted around remaining permanent teeth. Connected to a plastic base with a metal framework. Still removable.

Implant-supported dentures

For people who prefer dentures that don't move. Anchored to dental implants — combines stability of implants with affordability of dentures.

Why people choose dentures

Trauma or decay

When tooth damage is beyond repair and alternative procedures aren't an option.

Periodontal disease

Gum infection that has spread to the supporting structures of teeth — may require extractions and replacement.

Dental cavities

Severe decay where extraction becomes necessary and dentures are the chosen replacement.

Facial sagging

Missing teeth make the face look older. A well-fitted denture restores facial structure and lifts confidence.

Chewing & speaking

Missing teeth make eating and speaking painful. A new set restores these functions.

Children (rarely)

Accidents or conditions like ectodermal dysplasia may require dentures in children — special considerations apply.

Denture care

  • Eat soft food first, graduating to firmer food as you adjust
  • Sleep with dentures in for the first week, then remove at night
  • Practice speaking certain words to develop the new speech pattern
  • Brush and rinse dentures with a soft-bristled brush morning and night
  • Rinse after every meal
  • Soak overnight in cold water with a mild cleaning solution (no bleach)
  • Handle over a soft surface (towel or sink with water) so they don't break if dropped
  • Replace your set every 5-7 years

Avoid: sticky foods (can damage the base), hot foods (can melt the denture), toothpicks, biting into hard objects.

Possible early discomfort

  • Some gum pain initially
  • Difficulty chewing food for a few days
  • Altered speech and adjustment period
  • Mild irritation and extra saliva as your mouth adapts

After a week or two these issues should settle. If they persist — contact us for adjustments.

Denture questions, answered

How do I know if I need new or readjusted dentures?

Signs include chips in the dentures, difficulty chewing after the 2-week acclimatisation, changing fit, pressure sores on gums, speech pattern changes, or bad breath. Any of these — book a check.

Should I use a denture adhesive?

You can use over-the-counter adhesive if you find it more comfortable, but it shouldn't be a substitute for a properly fitted denture.

How often should I see my dentist about my dentures?

Every 6 months for a teeth cleaning and evaluation. Your dentist will check the dentures at the same time.

What if my dentures break?

We do emergency denture repairs — see our denture repair page. Most repairs done same day, often within an hour.

What are alternatives to dentures?

Dental implants are surgically placed false teeth that don't move. Veneers are an option if your teeth are intact and just need aesthetic improvement.

Are dentures covered by health funds?

Many private health funds cover dentures under extras cover. We're preferred providers for the major Australian funds and can process claims on the spot.

How long do dentures last?

5-7 years before they need replacing. Gums change shape over time, which is why periodic adjustments and eventual replacement are necessary.
